SCHEDULE - Session 1 Workshops
1.1 Your School Library… A great partner in multiple language learning!
How Does a School Library Support Language Learning in a Multilingual, Multicultural school?
This presentation will highlight the five main aspects of the school library that contribute to the support of language learning: a sense of community, reading for pleasure, breadth of materials, multiple formats and collaboration with teachers.
1.2 Using Immersion in a 40 Minute Middle or High School Class from Day One
Learn skills and strategies that can help implement a successful immersion foreign language classroom from day one in a 40 minute middle or high school foreign language class. This workshop will describe questioning techniques to draw your students out and get them participating in the foreign language.
1.3 Languages in the IB Diploma
The aim of this presentation is to present and explore the role of the IB Diploma’s special request and school supported self-taught languages in supporting additive bilingualism in schools.
1.4 From Speaking to Writing in a Second Language Classroom: Activities to Encourage Production in Early Elementary
This presentation will highlight research-based guidelines on how to encourage language production in primary immersion classrooms. Ways to structure oral and written activities that not only encourage students to use the target language, but give them the tools and motivation to do so will be presented.
