SCHEDULE - Session 3 Workshops
3.1 The Omission of Latin in the IBMYP: A Non-IB Authorized Discussion
A conversation on the impact of the IBMYP omitting Classical Languages or Culture from the MYP. Participants will discuss how this curriculum provides a grounding for DP Classical Languages and is the perfect interdisciplinary MYP experience for students across the world. This is a non-IB authorized presentation.
3.2 Marooned in a Language Immersion Program or Not?
This presentation focuses on how an intensive language program can be successful by not only measuring what happens in the program itself, but also in what happens beyond the immersion program, so that it is not “marooned” within the school. Observations on work done in programs in the state of South Australia, as well as Hong Kong will be presented.
3.3 Boarding School Babel: A model for a multilingual international learning environment
The presentation will address the practical and philosophical issues related to biculturalism and running an extensive mother-tongue program, specifically at Le Rosey in Switzerland – an international boarding school with dual language curriculum in English and French.
3.4 An Effective Online Resource Bank
Participants will be introduced to a tool that is being prepared and tailored for them: a resource bank that offers language teaching resources in the context of international education and cross-cultural education. CASIE is working this year on defining an efficient way to share and dispatch resources through its website.
