COUNCIL OF INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS Friday, September 21 & Saturday, September 22, 2007 UNIVERSITIES ¦ PHOTOS ¦ PRESENTATIONS The Student Foreign Film Night was made possible by the generous support of On September 21 and 22, 2007, IB Diploma students from throughout the Southeastern United States came to Atlanta, Georgia, for the second International College Fair in the United States. Hosted by Center for the Advancement and Study of International Education (CASIE), in partnership with the Council of International Schools (CIS), the fair served as a bridge for IB students to meet with universities that demonstrate a strong interest in IB Diploma holders. The fair was held at Atlanta International School (AIS), a K-12 school that offers the PYP and DP programmes, and is currently seeking authorization for the MYP. Building on the success of the 2006 International College Fair, this year’s fair welcomed seventy universities from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Europe and the Netherlands and over 500 eager IB students. On Saturday morning, CASIE Executive Director, Alex Horsley and CIS Director of Higher Education, Paula Mitchell, opened the Plenary Session, welcoming students, parents and teachers. Horsley encouraged the students to visit all of the colleges and universities at the fair and see all of the opportunities they have before them. He pointed out that the international nature of the IB Diploma could open many further education possibilities that were not available to most U.S. students. Representatives from University of Kent, St. Thomas University and Australian National University educated the crowd on the application process to attend universities in their respective countries, as well as the benefits to an oversees education. Sandra Wade Pauly, University and Government Liason for IBO's North American office in Vancouver, closed the session by highlighting college admission rates of IB students compared to their peers. Following the Plenary Session, students and parents rushed to the AIS gymnasiums to visit the 72 booths. University representatives were pleased with the turnout and look forward to attending next fall. CASIE is hopeful that this successful event will serve as a model for fairs in other regions to act as a resource for IB students. Thanks to everyone who made the event a success!
