Exploring the Inquiry Mindset: Cultivating Cultures of Curiosity
January 30 & 31, 2025
8:30 am - 3:30 pm
Atlanta, GA

CASIE is excited to welcome back internationally recognized inquiry expert, Trevor MacKenzie, for another engaging two-day CASIE Presents workshop. Known for his ability to bring inquiry theory to life with practical strategies, Trevor combines his experience as a high school teacher in Victoria, Canada, with insights from schools he supports worldwide. His heartfelt storytelling and contextual examples make his workshops highly relevant and impactful.

This event will be held at CASIE’s office in Atlanta, GA.

During the workshop, Trevor will introduce concepts from his latest publication, Inquiry Mindset Questions Edition, focusing on creating curiosity-driven classrooms. He will showcase ten high-impact Question Routines designed to enhance students’ ability to ask meaningful questions. Teachers will learn how to co-design lessons with student-generated questions, fostering a deeper connection to the curriculum.

Trevor will also explore assessment strategies, emphasizing student understanding of their learning progress. He will provide powerful feedback structures, formative assessment routines, and self- and peer-assessment techniques to support purposeful and student-centered learning.

You will learn to answer questions like these:

  • What are the various types of inquiry and how can these lead to a gradual shift of control over learning from the teacher to the learner?

  • How can we be more intentional in planning for student agency?

  • How can we cultivate classrooms of curiosity?

  • How can we mindfully support learners in inquiry by honing the skills, understandings and structures necessary to be successful in this new learning ecosystem?

  • What are the characteristics and understandings of the Inquiry Classroom and how can we develop these to better meet the needs of our students?

  • How can we embed Question Routines to help student generated questions shape the learning experience and teacher planning?

  • How can we facilitate assessment exercises and conversations more consistently in our classrooms and in our teaching time so students take on a more authentic role in the assessment process?

  • How can we encourage our learners to take on this new role in the classroom? And how can we inform parents to create capacity and support in this assessment transformation?

  • How can we facilitate meaningful conversations in student/teacher assessment conferences?

  • How can we strike a balance in our formative and summative assessment practice?

AIR TRAVEL

If you have not visited Atlanta before, our airport, Hartsfield-Jackson International, is the world’s busiest! There are multiple terminals connected by a very efficient train. The airport is very large and spread out so you must allow enough time, once you get there, to deal with your luggage, make your way through security screening, get to your terminal on the passenger train, and then still reach your gate at the terminal.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

Please be aware that Atlanta is largely not a pedestrian-friendly city. Most areas of town are not easily accessible by public transportation or on foot. We strongly recommend renting a car while visiting us.

If you have a car and plan to drive to our office, there is an open parking lot with 100+ free spaces at your disposal. This lot is regularly patrolled by security.

CASIE has negotiated a discounted car rental rate with Enterprise Rent-A-Car/National Car Rental. To obtain this discount, click HERE and use group code XZ03314 when making your reservation.

Our public transportation system, MARTA, does run buses by our office campus but does not have in-town metro stops nearby.

Taxis, Uber, and Lyft are plentiful and well-priced for travel all over Metro Atlanta.
